Weligama, a well-liked beach resort and lively fishing community, is situated near the southern tip of Sri Lanka.
Meaning "Sandy Village" in Sinhala, it lives up to its name with a scenic 2-kilometer stretch of coastline. Known as one of the best Weligama tourist attractions, it is an excellent surf spot in southern Sri Lanka, especially ideal for beginners practicing their first waves. Beyond the shoreline, this coastal hamlet is surrounded by lush coconut plantations and remains relatively peaceful and unaffected by mass tourism. Watching iconic stilt fishermen perched on vertical poles at sunrise and sunset is among the top things to do in Weligama. Coupled with marine-rich waters perfect for bay boat tours, this picturesque town offers an authentic taste of island life.
