Your day, step by step

1. 7:00 AM

   Pickup from Colombo

   Your day begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Colombo. Meet your driver and travel towards Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Enjoy views of tropical landscapes, local towns and coastal surroundings along the way.

2. 9:00 AM

   Madu River Boat Safari

   Arrive in the Balapitiya area and enjoy a memorable boat safari on the Madu River. Cruise through peaceful waterways surrounded by mangrove forests, small islands and lush vegetation. This scenic river ecosystem provides opportunities to observe birds and other wildlife in their natural surroundings. Depending on the route and operating conditions, you may also visit a cinnamon island or experience other activities offered by the local boat operator. Suggested duration: 1.5–2 hours.

3. 11:15 AM

   Visit a Sea Turtle Hatchery

   Continue to the Kosgoda area and visit a sea turtle hatchery or conservation centre. Learn about Sri Lanka’s marine turtles and the conservation efforts intended to protect them. Depending on the centre’s activities, you may learn about turtle nesting, hatchling care, threats to marine turtles and the importance of protecting coastal habitats. This visit offers an educational experience for families, nature lovers and travellers interested in marine conservation. Suggested duration: 45–60 minutes. The turtles and activities available for viewing depend on the conservation centre, animal welfare practices and conditions on the day.

4. 12:15 PM

   Herbal and Spice Garden Visit

   Continue to a local herbal and spice garden to discover some of the plants traditionally associated with Sri Lankan cuisine, herbal remedies and Ayurvedic practices. Learn about familiar spices such as cinnamon, pepper, cardamom and cloves, along with other aromatic plants cultivated in Sri Lanka. Your visit may include explanations of traditional spice cultivation, harvesting and uses. Suggested duration: 30–45 minutes.

5. 1:00 PM

   Lunch at a Local Restaurant

   Enjoy a lunch break at a local restaurant along the southern coast. Choose from available Sri Lankan dishes, rice and curry or other menu options, depending on the restaurant. Lunch provides an opportunity to relax before continuing to Galle’s historic attractions. Lunch is included only if specified in your confirmed tour quotation.

6. 2:00 PM

   Explore Galle Fort

   Continue to the historic Galle Fort, one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated cultural landmarks. Originally established by the Portuguese and extensively fortified by the Dutch, Galle Fort reflects centuries of maritime trade and cultural exchange. Explore the charming streets inside the fort, admire historic colonial architecture and enjoy the atmosphere of this remarkable coastal town. Take time to walk through the fort, capture photographs and discover its fascinating history. Suggested duration: 1.5–2 hours.

7. 4:15 PM

   Traditional Stilt Fishermen Viewpoint

   After exploring Galle Fort, continue along the southern coastline towards a suitable viewpoint in the Koggala or Weligama area, depending on the day’s route and conditions. Traditional stilt fishing is a distinctive Sri Lankan coastal practice in which fishermen sit on narrow poles positioned in shallow water. When fishermen are practising this traditional technique, you may have an opportunity to observe them and photograph the coastal scenery. Stilt fishing is not practised continuously. An active demonstration, photographs with fishermen or a close-up visit cannot be guaranteed.

8. 5:00 PM

   Return Journey to Colombo

   After completing the day’s sightseeing, begin your return journey to Colombo. Relax in your private vehicle while travelling back towards the capital. A short refreshment stop may be arranged if required.

9. 8:00 PM–9:30 PM

   Arrival in Colombo

   Arrive back in Colombo and enjoy drop-off at your hotel or another agreed location. Your southern coastal adventure concludes with memorable experiences of Sri Lanka’s wildlife, spice traditions, coastal scenery and historic heritage. Return times are approximate and depend on traffic, road conditions and the duration of visits.
